OBEDIENCE & SUBMISSIVNESS
“you are my friends if you do whatever I command you” (John 15:14) “... but one who disobeys the Son won't see life, but the wrath of God remains on him”(John 3.36) Hebr.3.18..: To whom did he swear that they wouldn't enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient?....As I swore in my wrath, they will not enter into my rest,...' “ Hebr5.9: “He became to all of those who obey him, the author of eternal salvation,..” “Even as it is written,' Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.” (Rom.9.13)
First sin was disobedience:..”but you shall not eat of the tree of the knowledge of the good and evil...” (Gen.2.17)
Basically that was the first sin in all the universe as Lucifer chose the way of independence and self sufficiency being his own master.
Adam knowingly chose the same path not understanding the consequences; selfishness, pride and general pecking order penetrated into the world. Not only this, but human soul was poisoned with the active tendency to increase in evil.
God's order is based on general voluntary submissiveness and servant hood where love and joy of giving will make the everlasting existence worth of living even enjoyable. He who loves is submissive to the object of his love.
God's purpose is to lead us inwardly accept His ways instead of passive obedience of His commands.
Deut. 11:13..”serve Him with all your hearth and with all your soul.”...”as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts, as in your ignorance.(1Peter1:14} ..We are “elect (for) to obedience” (1Peter 1:2)...”He led captivity captive”... From compulsory submissiveness (to sin) to willing submissiveness (to righteousness} trough love. “He who keeps my commandments,is that one who loves me”.
Hebr. 5:8 ...”though he was a Son, yet he learned obedience by the things which he suffered.”
Ps. 68:6 “But the rebellious (= not submissive) dwell in a sun-scorched (dry) land.” This existence serves as school for everlasting life in heaven.
Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly... your king comes to you! He is...lovely (humble) and riding on a donkey.”
Mat. 11:29... “Learn from Me, because I am meek and lowly ( humble ) in heart.”
But Christ ”is the radiance of his glory and the very image of his substance ” ( Hebr 1:3) “Son... has declared Him” (John 1:18)
....So Father Himself must be humble from His nature.
...And we ...are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory ( 2Cor.3:18)
In heaven the world of values is upside down comparing it to this one which is under the power of evil one. “If any man wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all” (Mark. 9:35}
Without doubt Christ is the biggest servant of all as no one is bigger than his master. Actually the whole Trinity toils for us without rest as it is God's will that nobody get lost. We should be imitators of Christ and walk just as He walked.
“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6) “Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the surface of the earth” (Num.12:3) “with him , I will speak mouth to mouth, even plainly; and he shall see Yahves form.” (Num. 12:8) Deut.18:15 ” ...God will raise up to you a prophet from among you of your brothers LIKE ME. You shall listen to him ...”
“Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord” (Eph. 5:2) “Yes all of you clothe yourselves with humility and be submissive to one another ” (1Peter 5:5) So Husbands submit to your wives and to your brothers as to the Lord.
If someone says, “I am submissive to God” and looks down upon his brother or sister, he is a liar; for he who does not be submissive towards his brother or sister whom he has seen, how can he be submissive towards God whom he has not seen. He who is submissive towards God must be submissive towards his brother also. “Most certainly I tell you because you didn't do it to one of the last of these, you didn't do it to me.” (Mat 25:45) What more: “Whit whatever measure you measure (towards your brother), it will be measured (back) to you.” (Mat. 7:2) If you are not submissive towards your brother, God is not submissive towards you and whatever you ask from God, you will not receive. You ask then in your own name which is selfishness and proud, not in Christ's name which is love and submissiveness. “Put on Lord Jesus Christ.”
Jes. 26:10 (NKJ) “Let grace be shown to the wicked, yet he will not lean righteousness. In the land of uprightness he will deal unjustly and will not behold the majesty of the Lord. Jes. 26:10 (NSV) “Evil people will not learn to do good even if you show them kindness. They will continue doing evil, even if they live in the good world; they never see the Lord's greatness. In this world humbleness is connected with weakness but in heaven greatness.
Gal.2:4...5..”False brethren... to whom we gave no place in the way of subjection, not even an hour OTHERWISE THE TRUTH OF THE GOSPELL MIGHT NOT CONTINUE WITH YOU. 1John 4:2 “By this know the spirit of God: every spirit (man) who confesses (= speak & walk same manner than Jesus) that Jesus Christ has come (into his) flesh (by submitting and lowing his brother) is from God.”
“He who is not of God doesn't listen to us.”(1 John 4:6) Real brothers don't burden you and utilize your submissiveness.(1Tess. 2:9)
Room 13:1 “ Let every soul be in subjection to higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.”
John 7:1 – Ref.1 NKJ “He (Jesus) did not want to walk in Judea because The ruling authorities sought to kill Him.”
John the Baptist called the Pharisees and Sadducee s “Brood of vipers”, Jesus called them ”hypocrites, wicked and adulterous” (Mat 16:1...4)
Herod ruler of jurisdiction where Jesus belonged “questioned Him with many words, but He gave no answers.” (Luke 23:7...9)
“...chief priest and elders confronted Him (Jesus) ...and said 'by what authority do you do these things? Who gave You this authority?” (Mat. 21:23) indicating that Jesus wasn't subject to their authority.
We should be followers of Him.
To understand “Room 13:1...6” consistent with other Bible teachings there appear to be an obvious explanation:
Room 13:1... Modified version:
1. Let every soul be in subjection to higher authority, for there are no authority expect from God (“We must to obey God rather than men.” Apt 5:29 ), (but existing Apostles and) these ordained and promoted by God are authority for us.
2. Therefore he who resist authority has opposed the ordinance by God and those opposing will receive judgment to themselves.
3. For the elders appointed by God are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. And do you desire to leave no fear of the authority? Do that which is good and you will have praise from the authority.
4.For he is servant of God to you for the good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the word of God in vain; for he is the servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him practicing evil.
“...whatever you bind in earth have been bound in heaven...” (Mat 16:19)
Hymenaeus and Alexander were delivered by Paul to Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme. (1Tim 1:20)
5. Therefore you must be in subjection, not only because of wrath (of God) but also for conscience' sake.
6. For because of this you also pay taxes (“You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain” - 1Tim 5:18 ), for they are Gods ministers ( not secular authorities or devils apostles ) continually serving God.
Don't mix up the true authority with the false one; for more are the children of the desolate (Hagar& flesh) than the one (Sara & spirit)with the husband (Christ)
“But as ( then)...even so it is now.”-Gal 4:29
Jer 5:31 “ The prophets prophesy falsely, And the priests rule by their own authority.”
Real elders are subject to you and your needs, whereas false ones are subject to anyone.
However, if someone have a mentality of mind to eat (continually) your “bread” as a gift and not to labor for it, there is word for this situation. “Now we command you brothers in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw yourselves from every brother who walks in rebellion (idly or disorderly), and not after the tradition which they received from us.” (2 Tess 3:6)
If you have not common sense to separate those who misuse and burden you with their never ending needs and troubles from the real brothers in real needs; the enemy will soon render you useless by exhaustion.

“Be submissive to one another” (1 Peter 5:5, Eph. 5:21)
Jesus is our brother so He will also follow this command relating to His brothers and sisters. However, if we ask in our own name God will not (usually) answer. If we carry personality (love) and submissiveness of Jesus asking in His name believing (Matt.21:22) God will answer.
“ Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” If we have a habit and need to exalt ourself (at the expense of your brother) it indicates that we do not carry His name according to His nature and fruits: “love your brother like yourself”.
We need to believe that our old name died on the cross with Jesus (“I die daily” like Paul) and now united with Him we have the new name, His name and life. - Name of Jesus is poured oil. (Song 1:3) By carrying His name we already have all and have no need to boost ourself being self -promotional.
1 Cor.15:25...28 (modified, additions inside bracket) For He must reign, till He has put all enemies under His feet...But when He says “all things are put under Him” it is evident that he (= submissive believer, brother of Jesus) who put all things under Him is excepted. Now when all things shall be subdued unto Him, then shall the Son also Himself be subject under him (the one/ His brother) who put all things under Him, that God (Father, Son, including His body and Holy Spirit) may be all (ONE) in all (His body as well).
Modern translations (for example The Amplified Bible) translate 1Cor 15:28 like: And when all is subjected under Son, then Son Himself will be made subject to God / Father / Him (with big letter) who has subjected all under Him.
For me this makes no sense for “though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered. Having been made perfect, he became to all of those who obey him the author of eternal salvation…”
This was well before the cross as the Father did always answer Christ’s prayers. There is no hierarchy in the Trinity God and all the Members are subject to each other. By my understanding the Athanasian Creed is correct. Are these new translations trying to put a pecking-order into heaven? Order and system in heaven will burst if members are not subject to each other by love. Our natural tendency after the Fall to self-promote (put on the fig leaves) is one of the reasons why God does not receive human face. God is not selfish. This addition 26.04.25 Erno Miettinen
